Anxiety gets lumped with stress, nervousness, and worry. However, they are actually quite different. Stress is the feeling, physically or emotionally, of pressure. You may have a test or may be temporarily over-loaded with tasks. Typically, stress last as long as the task inducing it. Nervousness is the shakey or what people call "the jitters" that come and go similar to stress. Worry is different from stress and nervousness as it happens in our thoughts. It includes sustained thoughts of concern, also called ruminating, about a event, usually in the future. Having prolonged stress, nerves, or worry that interferes with a persons work/school and/or relationships may be a symptom of something more, like an anxiety-related disorders. Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD) is anxiety about most things in a persons life. It doesn't seem to stop. It can cause depression, irritability, exhaustion/fatigue, and sleepless.

Trauma is a general term to describe distressing life events such as death, sexual assault, abuse and bullying, distressing medical procedures and illnesses, violence, and anything that threatens one's life and/or well-being. PTSD, or Post-traumatic Stress Disorder, is an response of common symptoms to trauma such as flashbacks, reactivity, and depression. No, not everyone who experiences trauma will develop PTSD....Why? "Classic" Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder, or OCD, is often casually mentioned conversation to dismiss a person's excessive attention to detail. We've all seen it on TV shows, like Monk or The Big Bang Theory. The actor is frantically checking a faucet or cleaning something they already cleaned. But for so many, OCD can make one feel like their mind is attacking them or that there is something seriously wrong.
