The age old answer is it depends. Yes, specialists provide targeted care, but more importantly, certain mental health issues require particular insight into how the brain interprets and reasons with the world around us. For example, a treatment that may be great for depression may in fact make anxiety symptoms worsen. Therefore, for some mental health issues, seeking the help of a specialist can indeed make a big difference.
